A Legacy of Philanthropy Lives On
Sally and Don Morton were well known in St. Louis, where they lived for 48 years. While they continued to show devotion to their family throughout the years, they also showed devotion to their community. Sally volunteered at their church, local school and several organizations. Don focused his volunteer work on local sporting and aviation organizations and St. Louis Children's Hospital Foundation.
Don was very humble yet very proud of his volunteer work. He saw it as an opportunity and no job was too big or too small for him to take on. Tiffany Schroeder says her dad felt valued through his interactions with the patients and their families and it brought him so much joy.
Sally and Don passed away two weeks apart in the summer of 2023 at the ages of 86 and 89. They were married for 59 years and left behind a legacy of philanthropic dedication they built together. Tiffany and Todd remember their parents always choosing to financially support the causes they were involved in, and with a gift in their trust, they were able to continue that support even beyond their lifetimes. "St. Louis Children's Hospital was very important to my dad," Todd Morton says. "My sister and I are thankful for his time there and we were happy to facilitate his support of St. Louis Children's through their trust."
Don and Sally participated in a complimentary and confidential values-based estate planning service offered through the Foundation's partnership with Thompson & Associates, which helps clients navigate the complexities of estate planning, working with individuals to identify personal values and develop strategies to ensure their estate plans reflect those and align with their overall financial and family objectives.
"I definitely believe they instilled a sense of philanthropy in me," Tiffany says. "It is very ingrained in my sense of self that you share your good fortune and help others. I don't feel that it was ever forced on me, it was just what you did!"
